What would a holiday in Bénodet be without discovering the most vulnerable natural areas such as La Mer Blanche?
Natura 2000 areas
Within the Breton Riviera, we have two 'Natura 2000' protected sites, one of which is partly in Bénodet.
The first Special Zone of Conservation (ZSC) runs along La Mer Blanche to the Mousterlin wetlands. This territory is made up of different types of natural habitats such as dunes, salt meadows and wetlands. To find out more: Respectful visitor's guidebook for the Mousterlin Wetlands.
The second protected site is the Glénan Archipelago. It is a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) as well as a Special Protection Area (SPA). The Glénan narcissi flowers are also an endemic species of the archipelago.
To learn more about the Glénan Archipelago and learn how to minimize the impact of your visit, feel free to look at the Respectful visitor's guidebook for the Glenans

Dogs on the beaches
Facing the Glénan archipelago and on the banks of the River Odet, you can take seaside walks with your four-legged friend. Dogs must be kept on a lead because you are in a protected nature reserve, La Mer Blanche.
Due to local laws, dogs are NOT allowed on Bénodet beaches of Bénodet, except off-season from October 31 to May 1 on the beaches of Le Coq and Saint-Gilles.
Shore and line fishing
Shellfish-hunting is forbidden at La Mer Blanche, but it is allowed on the Saint-Gilles beach depending on the local laws (prefectural decrees) which you will find on the government website or on the displays outside Bénodet Tourist Office.
Angling is prohibited along the stretch from Le Coq lighthouse to the Cornouaille bridge. However, you don't need a fishing licence to fish in the River Odet (between Bénodet and Quimper).
