A little history…
The history of yachting in Bénodet is rich and marked by the gradual development of the city as a renowned seaside resort. Here is a preview of this story:
Au early XNUMXth century, Bénodet begins to develop as a tourist destination. There sea bathing fashion attracts a wealthy clientele, particularly Parisians looking for a vacation. It was at this time that the first tourist infrastructures are emerging, notably hotels and villas by the sea.
In 1920s-1930s, first specific installations for pleasure craft are put in place. Pontoons and moorings were built to accommodate the boats of wealthy tourists who began to frequent Bénodet.
The 1950s and 1960s are seeing a significant increase in the number of boaters. THE port of Bénodet is modernized and expanded to meet this growing demand. New infrastructure is built, such as showers, toilets and fuel stations. During this period, several nautical clubs are emerging in Bénodet. These clubs play a crucial role in the promotion of sailing and nautical activities. They organize regattas and competitions which attract participants from across the region and beyond.
the Odet Yacht Club
Le Odet Yacht Club (YCO), formerly known as Société des Régates de L'Ile-Tudy-Loctudy and Société de Régates de Loctudy-Bénodet, was a key player in the development of yachting in all its forms in southern Brittany. Over the years, he has established himself as the initiator of prestigious regattas, transforming Bénodet into an essential stopover for cruise races and a privileged place for nautical gatherings.
A modern port
The following decades (70-80) are marked by a costs continued development of port infrastructure. Of the investments are carried out to improve the services offered to boaters, such as the installation of terminals for electricity and drinking water. The Bénodet marina is gaining in reputation and becoming an essential place for sailing enthusiasts.
Today, the Bénodet marina is a modern and well-equipped port, capable of accommodating several hundred boats. It offers a full range of services, including watercraft maintenance and repair, restaurants, nautical shops and recreational equipment.
The rise of leisure sailing
For its part, leisure sailing is becoming more and more popular. Sailing schools and nautical training centers are setting up on the Finistère coast, offering courses for children and adults. This contributes to democratizing the practice of sailing and attracting a new generation of browsers.
Nautical Events
Bénodet regularly welcomes major nautical events, such as international regattas, sea festivals and gatherings of old rigs. These events attract many visitors and contribute to the reputation of the city.
For more than a century, the YCO has played a determining role in the development of yachting. Eager to bring together and race classic yachts, in 2001 he launched the Rendezvous at Belle Plaisance, a gathering of classic and traditional sailboats among the most prestigious on the Atlantic coast.
