In recent years, we have noticed that our visitors are increasingly careful about their consumption practices during their stay.

To meet these demands, there are today many ecological labels which reward the environmental initiatives of committed establishments.

In our town, several establishments have received awards. We have one Ecolabel-certified establishment and another Green Key.

If you too would like to embark on this process, we invite you to discover the existing labels. You can also inquire directly with them to get involved in your turn.

the European ecolabel

Established in 1992, theEuropean Ecolabel is the only official European ecological label usable in all member countries of the European Union.
It makes it possible to distinguish environmentally friendly tourist accommodation such as hotels, lodges, guest houses, campsites, hotel and rental residences.
The European Ecolabel criteria are divided into 5 categories: general management, energy, water, waste and wastewater, and other criteria.

The criterion requires:

  • The establishment of a waste management system,
  • Equipment with low energy consumption,
  • Equipment with low water consumption,
  • The use of eco-labeled household products,
  • The promotion of soft mobility transport,
  • That at least 50% of the electricity consumed is of renewable origin,
  • The ban on using pesticides for the maintenance of planted outdoor spaces.

To learn more about this label, we invite you to watch the video on Environmental performance for Breton tourist accommodation providers and consult the list of criteria.

green key

Developed in France since 1998, the Clef Verte label is the first eco-label for tourist establishments in France. Also present on five continents, it is the first international sustainable tourism label. Thus, vacationers can choose to reduce their environmental impact by selecting one of the many labeled establishments in France.

The criteria are established at the international level and are common to all countries. They are re-evaluated each year to meet the environmental requirements of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
They cover different areas such as:

  • The environmental policy of establishments: water, energy and waste management,
  • Committed responsible purchasing,
  • The framework of life
  • Raised environmental awareness.

Ecolodge

Being an “Ecogîte” necessarily means being labeled Gîtes de France. Indeed, the Ecogîte label was created by Gîtes de France to promote the homes of environmentally conscious owners.

To deserve this label, you must generally respect the same criteria as for the Ecolabel.
In addition to reducing your consumption of energy (electric heating prohibited), water (rainwater recovery), your waste production (composting), it is very important that your guest house fits into its environment. Indeed, Ecogîtes wants the architecture of your home to be “ respectful of shapes, proportions, materials, colors » of the territory in which you live. In addition to using local materials for the construction or renovation of your gîte or guest room, you must also think about your land if you own one. Plant local species in your garden, which consume little water, is a criterion to take into account to qualify for the Ecogîtes label.
