Manoir de Kernault

Listed Hisotrical Monument and owned by the County Council of Finistère, the Manor House of Kernault is one of the most beautiful examples of Breton Manor Houses from 15th century, built in the heart of a vast agricultural estate. Its dwelling and outbuildings testify to the importance of their owners in the region. The grounds of Kernault are a wonderful place for a country walk. Breton shire horses, Scottish cattle and Ouessant sheep graze the fields, meadows and orchards and a stream flows gently through the park, creating a vivier and water meadows on the way. The park is deliberately run in a very eco-friendly manner, leaving plenty of space for native wildlife giving it a special, rather mysterious atmosphere with plenty to see and hear for those who stop to look and listen. The new orchard, planted in the autumn of 2011, completes the collection of local, old varieties of cider apples already present at the Manoir. Apart from the conservation and production aspects, this orchard is a great place to picnic or rest under the apple trees. It also gives visitors the opportunity to discover the widely diverse tastes of the apples, the ancient and modern lay-outs of the orchard, grafting techniques and the historic importance of cider at Kernault and in Cornouaille, through games, workshops and other events at different seasons of year. Admission to the grounds is free all year round.
The Manoir de Kernault stands at the heart of a 30-hectare estate. The 15th century country house and its 17th century half-timbered granary are the jewels of an architectural ensemble rich in 500 years of history. From 1st April onwards the Manoir offers a full cultural programme of events. Opening times are available on the website.
